A Communist state until 1989, the Czech Republic is now part of the European Union and NATO. Economically, it is the most successful of the former Communist states of central and eastern Europe.

A successful insertion into the European political order

- The Czech Republic is an independent Nation which maintains good relations with its neighbors

• But some foreign political parties put pressure for the questioning of the Benes Treaties

- The country is a member of NATO and many international organizations and integrated the European Union in May 2004
